An Amazon seller fee changed a couple months ago, and I'm surprised I haven't heard many people talking about it.
Last April, the shipping reimbursement for CDs and DVDs went up from $2.98 to $3.99. The variable closing fee went up from $.80 to $1.35 for merchant fulfilled. However, the fees for FBA will not change until April of 2014.
So what does this mean?
It means for the next 10 months, you can make an extra dollar selling CDs and DVDs on Amazon FBA.
Remember, for Amazon FBA items you can price your items to include the shipping costs into your price. So, let’s use penny CDs as an extreme example.
Before April 2013: If you sell a penny CD at an FBA price of $2.99, you are left with $.32 after all the fees.
After April 2013: If you sell a penny CD at an FBA price of $4.00, you are left with $1.18 after all the fees.
As you can see, you make about 86 cents more.
While, this might not seem like a lot, it can really add up if you are a big time CD and DVD seller. If you sell 2000 CDs a month, that’s an extra $1720/month income.
Okay Nathan, what can I get by with to start on Fba, I understand, I need an app to check prices and rank, But do I really need a repricer or lister at first.
Also do I have to pay the amazon membership fee to sell fba which I think is 39.00, someone told me I need to have it to check pricing and rank.

I don’t recommend getting a repricer or a listing program when you’re just starting. Everything you need is already on your Amazon seller account. No you don’t have join the Professional Plan of $39/ a month to join FBA. You will need to get some sort of an app or a scanner to scan items at thrift store, book sales, etc. However, I would just start by selling stuff that you already own.

I wanted your thoughts on the profit potential with selling CDs. Is there still a profit in it since they are becoming antiquated technology? Also, do you recommend a device that cleans and restores scratched CDs? Do you replace the Jewel case for most CDs to get a better condition rating? Do you still recommend buying CDs that sell MF for a penny that you can only sell for $3.99 through FBA? Most of the thrift store CDs I come across are $1.00. I don’t see how the math adds up. I have been only buying CDs that I can sell for at least $6 to $7. Even at that price, after fees you aren’t left with much. Thanks!
