In this video, I show you how to get books for free. It's a donation business model that involves putting an ad in the paper and picking up books at people's houses. I show about four or five examples of good books that I received from a recent pickup.

On a donation business model, what do you do if they ask for a receipt or ask if you are a nonprofit organization? You can’t give them a slip like at Salvation Army when items are donated. Most people want to know why they are donating or what’s the cause. I am not sure how to answer someone to that matter if they ever ask.
Nathan Holmquist says
I tell people that I sell the books on Amazon, and that a certain percentage of the profits go to local schools. I would say that only 5% of the people ask for a receipt. I tell them that I can’t give them one because the donations go directly to DonorsChoose.com.

I did something similar to this but I’d post notices on billboards at clubhouses in residential neighborhoods. Just wondering what you tell them when they ask what are you going to use the books for? I use to say I had an online bookstore and anything that I could use I’d list it on my store and the others I’d donate but that was always awkward.
Nathan Holmquist says
I tell them that I sell the books on Amazon and donate a certain percentage of the profits to DonorsChoose.org. And they can track donations on my website at DonateBooksinFlorida.com.

I don’t know where I’ve been, but thank you for sharing DonorsChoose.org website. Proceeds of my products on one site goes towards one terrific local organization that helps school children/teachers in Indian River/Brevard County. I’ve just added another site. Thank you for your information and thank you for helping schools.
PS Hello neighbor.

Excellent article packed with information. Would one need a business license or permit?
Nathan Holmquist says
No license is required. You just can’t pretend to be a non profit organization. You would need to disclose the percentage of profits that are going to charity.
