Here's a quick video on to attach a scanner to your phone.
Socket Klip Case
If you have a Samsung Galaxy 4 or an iPhone 5, you can get a klip case that fits your phone. If you have any other type of phone, you would need to get the universal klip case and attach it to a phone case. You can get one on Socket's website for about $20.
Socket 8Ci Scanner
This is my favorite scanner for scouting. I've tested this on FBAScan and ProfitBandit, and it works well on both. You can get one for about $195 on Amazon.

When I purchased my phone, the model had not been out long and I couldn’t figure out which Klip Case to order, so I took some trophy tape I had left over from a previous business and used it to attach the scanner to the back of my phone. It has been about four months now and it is still holding strong. The downside is that I can’t remove the scanner from the phone, but I haven’t had any need to do so.
Trophy tape is used to attach the metal or plastic plate to a trophy. You can probably get a small section of trophy tape from any Mom-and-Pop trophy shop. You don’t need a lot. I think I used three two-inch pieces.

I use the same scanner as you Nathan (based on your tip). What I did is bought a cheap phone case for $6, and some of this double sided tape: http://www.amazon.com/Scotch-414-DC-Extreme-Mounting/dp/B009NP1JQC/ref=sr_1_5?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1438100696&sr=1-5&keywords=double+sided+foam+tape
I put the scanner on the phone case, and now when I go scanning, I just put that case on the phone. After a while, I found some even thinner, stickier tape.
I just noticed the previous comment from Bethany. I did that at first too, but quickly realized I didnt want the scanner on the phone all the time. So taping it to a case worked best for me.

Nathan,
Slightly off topic, but have you found that some desktop scanners work better than others? I find that my Socket 8Ci scanner works great out in the field, but at home, my desktop one has a lot of trouble. Do you find that your desktop works better, the same, or worse than the Socket 8Ci?

I had trouble with my USB scanner attached to my PC at first also. I figured out that it was actually my computer that couldn’t handle the speed of input from the scanner. There is a barcode in the manual for my scanner that enabled me to slow down the speed. Now it works much better with only an occasional problem.

Hi David,
I used a couple desktop scanners that have worked well. They are the Motorola Symbol LS2208 and the Taotronics TT-BS003. The links are below:

I had the socket clip attached to my keychain, had been struggling with the scanner in one hand and the phone in the other, not a pretty sight. Such a simple affordable. effective solution. I bought the scanner based on your recommendation, so happy with it, been a fan of yours since you’ve been posting, thanks for all you contribute.

Do you still have to purchase software to scan items with the scanner, like SerialMagic Gears?
Nathan Holmquist says
I have not had to purchase anything extra.
